Atlas Report: Glendale

The Monster Energy Supercross series exited California for the first time this past weekend, with a trip to the new venue of Glendale in Arizona. The University of Phoenix stadium hosted the fifth round of seventeen, which was a good one for Atlas’ Jason Anderson, Lawson Bopping and Chris Howell.

The night was consistent with what we have seen from Jason in recent weeks, as he again showed a tremendous amount of speed and ability during the daytime and night show. Jason transferred to the main event after winning his semi but was hindered by a poor start once there. After ending lap one ninth, he carved his way through the field and into fourth on lap nine.

That was where he would eventually finish, which means he is one of just two riders to finish in the top five in every main event thus far this year. Jason now occupies third overall in the 450SX standings.

Lawson Bopping started the day with a rough crash in practice but benefitted from the protection that the Atlas brace offers. The Australian was able to rebound in the night show and transfer through to the main event, after winning the last chance qualifier by a comfortable margin. Sixteenth was where he eventually finished in the 450SX main, which was a season best and saw him edge closer to the top twenty in the series standings.

In the 250SX West division, Chris Howell bounced back from a difficult time in Oakland and made it into his fourth main event of the season. More points were scored by ‘222’, thanks to his twentieth place finish.

Petco Park is the next stop on the Monster Energy Supercross calendar, as the series edges closer to the halfway mark.
